THE BYZANTINES
To history, they are known as the Byzantines, but to themselves and to their enemies, they are the Roman Empire. The glory days of Augustus and Justinian have long since faded, and the Empire is in a fight for survival as it is beset by enemies on all fronts. The Byzantines are a very popularly requested faction for AOEIV. They have been a mainstay in many history themed games, and were one of the most prominent factions in AOEII. In this concept, the Byzantines are a defensive-focused civilization, focused around expanding their "Aqueduct" network while defending them with powerful walls. Slow-moving but extremely powerful units like the Cataphract and the Flamethrower means the Byzantines prefer direct, head-on engagements.
